Tecore Helps Upgrade Alaskan GSM Network

Tecore Networks will upgrade Cordova Wireless’ GSM network. It will be the beginning of moving towards LTE for the Alaskan telecom company. Tecore’s iCore platform can be upgraded through software upgrades. It will offer high speed wireless broadband in a scalable manner for rural, remote and specialized operators.

Cordova Wireless services Cordova, Alaska and the fishing industry on the Copper River. The fisherman on the river need roaming capability in their wireless services.Tecore provides additional coverage with its iCore platform and FarSite extended-range feature on its IP iBSS. This feature quadruples the normal range of a base station.

Tecore advised Cordova Wireless on network analysis and migration planning. Cordova submitted a Broadband Stimulus grant application to RUS in preparation for a network upgrade.

“We certainly appreciate Cordova’s business and continued loyalty, based on our track record of delivering the highest level of products and services, and on our proven ability to evolve our customers to the next generation of technology,” Bruce Portell, Chief Operating Officer, Tecore Networks, said, “Combining our scalable 3G and 4G broadband solutions with stimulus funding from the government, rural carriers have a unique opportunity to build out next-generation networks and offer the most advanced services and applications to their subscribers.”

iCore technology allows for a complete IP architecture. The upgrade towards LTE will also include expansion of the radio access network based on the all-IP iBSS Super-Capacity GSM RAN. Tecore will also provide a full suite of tailored professional services including a radio frequency sweep and an accelerated installation timeline due to the harsh winter weather conditions.

“At Cordova Wireless, we strive to provide our subscribers with the highest quality and most sophisticated services available on the market,”  Paul Kelly, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Cordova Wireless, said, “Rural and remote operators have often had to lag the national carriers in delivery of next-generation services, but thanks to Tecore, we can envision a migration from 2G straight to 4G to be on par.”
