The Samsung Galaxy S II has already made a splash as the fastest-selling smartphone in Asia and Europe. The high-end Android phone includes a Samsung dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen and (with some models) supports NFC technology, priming the phone to support NFC tags and mobile payments. Now, a 4G LTE version of the Galaxy S II is set to be unveiled this week.
Aside from the addition of 4G LTE compatibility, the new Galaxy S II is also a slight upgrade, featuring a 4.5-inch screen (rather than a 4.3 inch screen) along with a 1.5-Ghz dual-core processor, 1080p High Definition video recording, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. More specific information on pricing has not yet been provided. Though the addition of 4G LTE takes an already-popular phone to the next level, smartphone-lovers in the United States are unlikely to see the LTE version of the Galaxy S II anytime soon. Verizon has already confirmed that it is not going to carry the device–making it unclear what network will house the Galaxy S II, and when.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is also slated for release and will be LTE-capable. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 will run Android Honeycomb and includes an 8.9-inch display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. A specific US release date and pricing information remain under wraps.
