GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support Node)
GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support Node): GGSN is a primary component of cellular networks that employ GPRS. The GGSN serves as the interface to external IP packet networks, accessing external ISP functions such as routers and remote access dial-in user service (RADIUS) servers. In terms of the external IP network, the GGSN routes the IP addresses of subscribers served by the GPRS network, exchanging routing information with the external network. The GGSN sets up communication with external networks and manages GPRS sessions. It also includes functionality for associating subscribers to the appropriate SGSN. For each mobile subscriber, the GGSN also collects charging data-use of the external data network and use of GPRS network resources.
